LEF Guide to responsible seafood consumption

The Lanka Environment Fund, together with Club Ceylon, recently launched ‘A Practical Guide to Purchasing Responsible Seafood in Sri Lanka’ (The Guide). The 12-page document is meant to help consumers make “responsible choices from market to plate”, and is available in all three languages online at lankaenvironmentfund.org.

“Sri Lanka is a fishing country. One in five people is dependent on fishing for their livelihood and fish products account for more than 50-percent of the country’s daily animal protein intake,” says Mehak Sangani, Marine Programs Manager at the Lanka Environment Fund, explaining why we need this guide. “Overfishing across the island is resulting in waste as well as depletion of marine populations. With time, it could become a food security problem.”
