Small-scale watering holes built with soil-based method in wildlife parks

Mud-based building methods used in Sri Lanka for thousands of years are being put to use, combined with a mixture of selected soil and a portion of cement to create pools of water for wild animals.

Developed by a team of civil engineers at the University of Moratuwa, the novel method described as “mud-concrete’’ has been used in wildlife parks to build small-scale ponds just as watering holes dry up.

Prof Rangika Halwathura and his team, known as ‘Pro-Green’, have already used the technology known as ‘mud concrete’.
